FUELING THE GROWTH PITCH COMPETITION

The Refinery hosted the Fueling the Growth Pitch Competition at the The Second Annual Newark Tech Summit, in support of the City of Newark's Tech Week, a weeklong city-wide celebration of technology and innovation, which takes place October 18 through October 22.

Founded in 2015, Newark Tech Week is a true collaboration between The City of Newark, local startups, fintech entrepreneurs, universities and incubators, meant to promote connectivity and showcase its evolution into a dynamic tech hub, as part of Newark’s greater technology renaissance.

The Refinery teamed with angel and venture capital investors to get as many female founders, as possible, in one-on-one meetings with investors. Founders pitched for 7 minutes, and received 7 minutes of feedback. Investors selected the top companies to pitch-off for cash and other prizes at the evening awards/networking event. In Newark, investors from Pantegrion Capital, SoundBoard Angels and Pipeline Angels met with founders.

The one-on-one meetings were held at Equalspace, at 2 Gateway Center, C&K Properties’ Class A office building in the heart of downtown Newark. All applicants were pre-screened by The Refinery team.
